The service was engaging, the menu is approachable and the food was perfectly balanced and portioned. Can’t say enough good things about this place. Will be making a trip back for sure!! ”

“ This place is going to be my place to go every time I come to marfa, especially if my girl mastiff Lola is with me. The guy who took our order was super friendly, and I didn't have to ask to get me water for my dog. I waited on 2 other places which they are good but unfortunately I didn't see the friendly service they advertised or Pet friendly that's how they show on their website. “ Cochineal is a gorgeous restaurant. You enter through a courtyard that is like a rock garden. The interior is comfortable, perfectly dark, and the music set at the right volume. We started with the house made bread with butter and confit garlic. The Gemishter salad was a deconstructed salad and was very nice. The steak was good, a cut that I was not familiar with. Escargot were massive, plump and tender. Our waiter was completely aloof all night. He never cleared a plate nor a glass without us asking. When he walked by our table to deliver items to other tables, he would turn around and head to the kitchen without ever looking to see if we needed our water glasses refilled or plates removed. Another waiter offered to clear, as he could tell our table was getting overwhelmed. When he presented the bill, he mentioned a 20% service charge was added, but it was shared and he would only see a small portion of it. I reluctantly added 10. I’ve never encountered this situation after eating out for decades. ”

“ We had an excellent dining experience. We had a party of 8 with 4 children. We did not make reservations but they accommodated our party in the private casita room. We highly recommend the chefs tasting with 6 courses. The drinks were fantastic. The very expensive loafs of bread are pricy but so worth it! ”

“ The most incredible meal I’ve had in my whole life. This was my first opportunity to try a prixe fixe menu, and I would be hard pressed to have a better first experience. We mistakenly placed our reservation on the wrong day, and the staff happily accommodated us despite my oversight. I will admit as a West Texas native we haven’t always had the greatest dining options in the world, but believe you me this place is truly an oasis in our humble desert. ”

“ We celebrated my birthday at this James Beard awardee during a week-long stay in Marfa. We'd intended to sit inside but given the mild temps and serenity of the courtyard--in contrast to the thumping music in the dining room--we elected to dine al fresco. Based on reviews, we kicked things off with cocktails and a quarter-loaf of Cochineal's highly-regarded bread. Our mains were delicious--the trout for my wife, the locally-raised beef for me. Without a doubt, one of the highlights was the gracious service by Dallas. She coached me through selecting a terrific sotol, guided us through the entrees and checked back in appropriately. All in all, a very pleasant evening. ”
